There’s been lots of buzz around Into The Woods. The movie has already made history – its opening weekend was the biggest film launch of a Broadway adaptation. A number of you have wondered what other actors were up for roles in this musical. A few years after the show opened on Broadway, Hollywood was ready to film it. There was a deal with Columbia which would have starred Cher as the Witch, Robin Williams as the Baker, Goldie Hawn as his wife, Steve Martin as the Wolf, and (in a bit of whimsical casting) Danny DeVito as the Giant. After a closed reading, that project was abandoned. In 1997, Columbia revived the idea as a vehicle for Billy Crystal as the Baker, Meg Ryan as his wife, and Susan Sarandon as the Witch. Needless to say, nothing came of that.
