Capote Up For Auction

Any day now you could own a piece of Truman Capote – literally.  When the famed raconteur died, he left half his ashes to longtime companion Jack Dunphy and the other half to best friend Joanne Carson – who was quite used to receiving half of lump sums!  Apparently Capote was living with Carson during the last years of his life.  And when she died last year, Capote’s ashes were part of her estate.  Darren Julien of Julien’s Auctions admitted that it is somewhat unseemly to be auctioning off a person’s ashes.  But this is a special case.  “Truman Capote loved the element of shock.  He loved publicity.  And I’m sure he’s looking down laughing, and saying, ‘That’s something I would have done.’  He was a larger-than-life character.”  In case the ashes are not enough, on September 24th you could also bid on the swimsuit Tru was wearing when he died.  I guess it was flame retardant.
