Pretty Woman on Broadway

The Broadway-bound musical version of Pretty Woman will be opening on August 16th.  The show is currently in previews at the Nederlander Theatre, and we hear audiences love it.  Last week, they had a pretty important group of people come to check it out – the family of director Garry Marshall and the film’s star, Julia Roberts.  In a classy act, Julia was wearing a vintage Laverne & Shirley T-shirt under her blazer.  She also spoke highly about Garry, the work he did, and how every project really was about family.  Garry’s son Scott spoke on behalf of the family: “His dream was to make it on Broadway.  When he was a little kid, growing up in New York, his mother would take him to Broadway shows, and he and his sisters, and they didn’t have a lot of money so they sat way in the back row, and that’s where he first fell in love with live theater.  He never gave up on his dream.”  As someone who also knew and admired Garry, I am sure this show fulfills his vision…thanks in no small measure to director and choreographer Jerry Mitchell.  I predict a HUGE hit!
