Another Oscars <\/em><\/strong>go down in history as\u2026well, the word that springs to mind is \u201cuneventful\u201d.  You know you\u2019re in trouble when it took a quip about the female menstrual cycle to grab the attention of this very sexually active gay man.  Speaking of being grabbed, I couldn\u2019t help but notice that none of the four winners for Bohemian Rhapsody<\/em><\/strong> thanked the person responsible for those wins.  So I\u2019ll say it \u2013 thank you, Bryan Singer<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

An Oscar <\/em>highlight was the performance by Queen<\/em><\/strong>.  And even I learned something.  Did you know that Adam Lambert <\/strong>was in Bohemian Rhapsody<\/em>?  He\u2019s the guy who hooked up with Freddie Mercury <\/strong>in the truck stop restroom.  Since he\u2019s now lead singer of the band, it\u2019s like he had sex with himself \u2013 probably not the first time.<\/p>\n

It seems each year notable people are inevitably omitted from the In Memoriam<\/em><\/strong> segment, and this year was no different.  Egregiously absent was Carol Channing<\/strong>, who was also an Oscar <\/em>nominee!  And, where was Kaye Ballard<\/strong>?  Oh, the humanity!  I can understand skipping Sondra Locke <\/strong>\u2013 they probably wanna stay on Clint<\/strong>\u2019s good side!<\/p>\n

Let me give some advice to all singers out there.  When the note is flat, you know what doesn\u2019t help cover it up?  Holding it longer and screaming.  And, for heaven\u2019s sake, learn the lyrics.  It\u2019s pretty obvious who is hugging the TelePrompTer <\/em>for words and who is actually connecting with the song and the audience.<\/p>\n

In the month leading up to the Oscars<\/em>, there was lots of talk about how the Academy <\/em>could trim the festivities.  One of the most controversial considerations was to give out certain awards during commercials.  Another plan was to ditch performances of most nominated songs and allow only two \u2013 Lady Gaga <\/strong>and Bradley Cooper <\/strong>warbling \u201cShallow\u201d (from A Star Is Born<\/em><\/strong>) and Kendrick Lamar <\/strong>singing \u201cAll the Stars\u201d (from Black Panther<\/em><\/strong>).  Now, I think I\u2019ve made it clear I am not a Lady Gaga devotee.  Not that I have anything against her, I simply don\u2019t get all the hoopla.  However, even I must give credit where credit is due.  Gaga insisted that if ALL nominated songs were not included, she would not perform.  So, we can thank Gaga for Bette Midler<\/strong>\u2019s performance of \u201cThe Place Where Lost Things Go\u201d (which happened because Emily Blunt <\/strong>was skittish about performing live).<\/p>\n

I know what you\u2019re thinking \u2013 why wasn\u2019t \u201cAll the Stars\u201d performed during the Oscar <\/em>telecast?  We\u2019re told that decision came from Kendrick Lamar, himself.  Apparently, he was touring for the past month and didn\u2019t feel he could get an Oscar<\/em>-worthy performance together.  So, he simply took a pass.<\/p>\n

Timing was not on Gaga\u2019s side with her engagement to fianc\u00e9 <\/em>Christian Carino <\/strong>imploding days before the Academy Awards<\/em>.  However, they seem to still be on speaking terms.  When they ran into each other at CAA<\/em>\u2019s pre-Oscars <\/strong>soir\u00e9e<\/em>, they said a quick hello.  FYI, her Oscar <\/em>date was longtime manager, Bobby Campbell<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
