{"id":4803,"date":"2019-03-11T04:18:13","date_gmt":"2019-03-11T11:18:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.billymasters.com\/custom\/?p=4803"},"modified":"2019-03-11T04:18:13","modified_gmt":"2019-03-11T11:18:13","slug":"still-laugh-in","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.billymasters.com\/custom\/blog\/2019\/03\/11\/still-laugh-in\/","title":{"rendered":"Still Laugh-In"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last week, I went to a gala evening at the&nbsp;<em>Dolby Theatre&nbsp;<\/em>celebrating the 50<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;anniversary of&nbsp;<strong><em>Laugh-In<\/em><\/strong>.&nbsp; For&nbsp;<strong><em>Still Laugh-In: The Stars Celebrate<\/em><\/strong>,&nbsp;<em>Netflix&nbsp;<\/em>hoped to assemble the remaining living cast members.&nbsp; They were one short \u2013 no&nbsp;<strong>Goldie&nbsp;<\/strong>(for reasons well known to them, or so I\u2019m told).&nbsp; In the role of&nbsp;<strong>Goldie Hawn&nbsp;<\/strong>we got&nbsp;<strong>Miss Loni Anderson&nbsp;<\/strong>(no, not in a bikini).&nbsp; Happily, we did have&nbsp;<strong>Lily Tomlin&nbsp;<\/strong>(who did two new&nbsp;<em>Ernestine&nbsp;<\/em>and&nbsp;<em>Edith Ann&nbsp;<\/em>sketches \u2013 both of which were pre-taped),&nbsp;<strong>Jo Anne Worley&nbsp;<\/strong>(who was chewing up the scenery) and&nbsp;<strong>Ruth Buzzi&nbsp;<\/strong>(who currently bears a striking resemblance to&nbsp;<strong>Ruth Bader Ginsberg<\/strong>).&nbsp; The event was hosted by&nbsp;<strong>Tiffany Haddish&nbsp;<\/strong>and self-proclaimed sword swallower,&nbsp;<strong>Neil Patrick Harris<\/strong>.&nbsp; Guest stars included&nbsp;<strong>Jay Leno<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Billy Crystal<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Bill Maher<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Chelsea Handler<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Cheri Oteri<\/strong>, and a bunch of others who I must say neither&nbsp;<strong>Bruce Vilanch&nbsp;<\/strong>nor I could place.&nbsp; The low point was a musical number by the two&nbsp;<strong>Rita<\/strong>s \u2013&nbsp;<strong>Moreno<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>Wilson<\/strong>.&nbsp; And we had to sit through it twice.&nbsp; I loves me some Moreno, but this was not good.&nbsp; The spunky Latina made sure to let the audience know it wasn\u2019t her fault.&nbsp; \u201cI\u2019m not taking the blame for this shit \u2013 we\u2019ve been sitting back there in the freezing cold for two hours!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The evening ran very long and towards the end, people were leaving.&nbsp; At one point, I was pulled from my seat and asked to sit in the front row next to&nbsp;<strong>Norman Lear&nbsp;<\/strong>\u2013 talk about television royalty!&nbsp; Two seats over was&nbsp;<em>Laugh-In<\/em>&nbsp;creator,&nbsp;<strong>George Schlatter&nbsp;<\/strong>\u2013 who recognized me and said hi.&nbsp; All I kept thinking was, FINALLY I\u2019m the young one!&nbsp; Then Norman leaned over to George and said, \u201cCan you believe we created being funny on television?\u201d&nbsp; George said, \u201cYeah, and they\u2019re KILLING it!&nbsp;
