{"id":5091,"date":"2019-06-17T02:41:11","date_gmt":"2019-06-17T09:41:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.billymasters.com\/custom\/?p=5091"},"modified":"2019-06-17T02:41:11","modified_gmt":"2019-06-17T09:41:11","slug":"decaro-knows-drag","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.billymasters.com\/custom\/blog\/2019\/06\/17\/decaro-knows-drag\/","title":{"rendered":"DeCaro Knows Drag"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I went to several Pride-related events in Hollywood, including a book signing for&nbsp;<strong>Frank DeCaro<\/strong>\u2019s encyclopedic volume,&nbsp;<strong><em>Drag: Combing Through the Big Wigs of Show Business<\/em><\/strong>.&nbsp; What an entertaining and informative book \u2013 certainly a \u201cmust\u201d for anyone reading this column.&nbsp; Why, it is simply staggering the amount of information you learn.&nbsp; In addition to the current drag divas, I was interested in reading about the people who paved the way \u2013 because, we all know that without drag queens, we\u2019d have no&nbsp;<strong><em>Stonewall<\/em><\/strong>.&nbsp; The event I went to at&nbsp;<em>Barnes &amp; Noble&nbsp;<\/em>at&nbsp;<em>The Grove&nbsp;<\/em>was standing room only and featured the grand dame of Los Angeles drag,&nbsp;<strong>Momma<\/strong>.&nbsp; On the dais we had&nbsp;<strong>Bruce Vilanch&nbsp;<\/strong>(who apparently is the go-to when it comes to writing material for men in drag on television),&nbsp;<strong>Alaska Thunderfuck<\/strong>, and the reigning&nbsp;<em>Best in Drag<\/em>,&nbsp;<strong>Reba Ariba<\/strong>.&nbsp; The panel discussion was fascinating (I\u2019ll link to it on&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.BillyMasters.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong><u>BillyMasters.com<\/u><\/strong><\/a>) and special celebs like&nbsp;<strong>Jack Plotnick<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Melissa Peterman<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Tom Lenk<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Drew Droege<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Carolyn Hennesy<\/strong>, and others made it truly a celebration.&nbsp; Go out and buy Frank\u2019s book NOW!<\/p>\n<p>Do you remember&nbsp;<strong><em>Bicentennial Moments<\/em><\/strong>?&nbsp; They were little&nbsp;<em>PSAs&nbsp;<\/em>that ran on network TV.&nbsp; I don\u2019t remember exactly when \u2013 I believe it was sometime in the mid-\u201870s.&nbsp; Anyhoo, here\u2019s your Gay Pride moment.&nbsp; Didya know actor&nbsp;<strong>Michael Gross&nbsp;<\/strong>\u2013 yes,&nbsp;<strong>Michael J.
