{"id":5248,"date":"2019-08-11T15:24:00","date_gmt":"2019-08-11T22:24:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.billymasters.com\/custom\/?p=5248"},"modified":"2019-08-11T15:24:00","modified_gmt":"2019-08-11T22:24:00","slug":"cooper-does-bernstein","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.billymasters.com\/custom\/blog\/2019\/08\/11\/cooper-does-bernstein\/","title":{"rendered":"Cooper Does Bernstein"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There have been several attempts to bring the story of&nbsp;<strong>Liberace&nbsp;<\/strong>to the stage.&nbsp; While none of those projects have made it very far, a new one based on&nbsp;<em>HBO<\/em>\u2019s&nbsp;<strong><em>Behind the Candelabra<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;is being produced by&nbsp;<strong>David Permut<\/strong>.&nbsp; He says his ideal Liberace would be&nbsp;<strong>Bradley Cooper<\/strong>.&nbsp; \u2018Cause when I think of Liberace, I naturally think of Bradley Cooper.<\/p>\n<p>For the time being, Cooper is unavailable to play the piano prodigy because he\u2019s slated to play another formidable musical giant \u2013&nbsp;<strong>Leonard Bernstein<\/strong>.&nbsp; Bradley Cooper will play the composer of&nbsp;<strong><em>West Side Story<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;(among other things) and also direct the film for&nbsp;<em>Paramount Pictures<\/em>.&nbsp; He\u2019s also snagged&nbsp;<strong>Steven Spielberg&nbsp;<\/strong>and&nbsp;<strong>Martin Scorsese&nbsp;<\/strong>as co-producers.&nbsp; You may recall there was a rival biopic about Bernstein in the works which would have starred&nbsp;<strong>Jake Gyllenhaal<\/strong>.&nbsp; Alas, that project stalled when Cooper snagged the exclusive rights to Bernstein\u2019s music from the composer\u2019s family \u2013 a decision which was made after he volunteered to co-host a performance of&nbsp;<strong><em>Candide<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;alongside&nbsp;<strong>Carey Mulligan<\/strong>, who happens to be the front runner to play Bernstein\u2019s wife.&nbsp; Clever boy.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There have been several attempts to bring the story of&nbsp;Liberace&nbsp;to the stage.&nbsp; While none of those projects have made it very far, a new one based on&nbsp;HBO\u2019s&nbsp;Behind the Candelabra&nbsp;is being produced by&nbsp;David Permut.&nbsp; He says his ideal Liberace would be&nbsp;Bradley Cooper.&nbsp; \u2018Cause when I think of Liberace, I naturally think of Bradley Cooper.
