Grant <\/strong>(<em>Oscar<\/em>-nominated last year for <strong><em>Can You Ever Forgive Me?<\/em><\/strong>) recently pushed this agenda in an interview with the <em>Sunday Time<\/em> in London.&nbsp; \u201cThe transgender movement and the #MeToo movement means, how can you justify heterosexual actors playing gay characters?\u201d&nbsp; So, flipping it around, does Richard also wonder \u201chow can you justify homosexual actors playing straight characters\u201d?&nbsp;&nbsp; \u2018Cause, y\u2019know, it\u2019s a slippery slope.<\/p>\n<p>I don\u2019t know how the notorious REG will react to this next story.&nbsp; Do you remember when <em>Marvel <\/em>announced plans for their first openly gay superhero?&nbsp; And that they would only consider hiring an openly gay actor?&nbsp; Way back then, it was rumored that the character would be \u201cIkaris\u201d.&nbsp; Apparently that is no longer the case.&nbsp; Recent reports indicate that the character will be Phastos in <strong><em>The Eternals<\/em><\/strong>, as played by <strong>Brian Tyree Henry<\/strong>.&nbsp; You may know BTH for his <em>Emmy<\/em>-nominated turn as rapper Paper Boi in the series <strong><em>Atlanta<\/em><\/strong>, or his guest-starring role on <strong><em>This is Us<\/em><\/strong> (also <em>Emmy<\/em>-nominated), or his <em>Broadway <\/em>turn in <strong><em>Lobby Hero<\/em><\/strong> (a <em>Tony <\/em>nomination).&nbsp; Although Brian hasn\u2019t made any declarations regarding his sex life, there have been rumors \u2013 particularly after his convincing portrayal of a drag queen in the play <strong><em>Wig Out<\/em><\/strong>, which was staged at the <em>Sundance Theatre Lab <\/em>in 2007.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Every once in a while, someone champions the belief that gay roles should only be played by gay actors.&nbsp; Richard E.
