We call it <strong><em>The View<\/em><\/strong>.\u201d&nbsp; Truer words were never spoken than during this <strong><em>Saturday Night Live<\/em><\/strong> spoof of the talk show\u2019s opening (said by <strong>Cheri Oteri <\/strong>as <strong>Barbara Walters<\/strong>).&nbsp; Whatever you may think about <em>The View<\/em>, it is appointment television.&nbsp; The show not only reports the news \u2013 it makes news.&nbsp; And it opened the new year with a bombshell \u2013 the departure of right-of-center <strong>Abby Huntsman<\/strong>.&nbsp; A popular co-host\u2019s departure would be news at any time.&nbsp; But a co-host\u2019s departure during an election year is huge \u2013 especially for a show the <em>New York Times<\/em> recently dubbed \u201cThe most important political TV show in America\u201d.&nbsp; The first question is why \u2013 why is Abby leaving?&nbsp; The immediate answer is that she\u2019s going to help her father, who is running for governor of Utah.&nbsp; But then, more tidbits trickled out.&nbsp; First, who knew that <strong>Meghan McCain <\/strong>was pregnant?&nbsp; Hands?&nbsp; Anyone?&nbsp; Apparently, she was pregnant last summer and even wrote a <em>New York Times<\/em> piece about her miscarriage.&nbsp; So, bad <strong>Billy <\/strong>\u2013 I missed this entirely (in my defense, in the summer I am at my most self-involved and promiscuous).&nbsp; According to sources, Meghan considered Abby\u2019s on-air \u201cchild-centric chats\u201d during this difficult time \u201cinsensitive\u201d.&nbsp; While this isn\u2019t the only reason Abby left, the term \u201ctoxic work environment\u201d was brought up more than once.&nbsp; Abby\u2019s dad running for governor may simply be a good excuse.<\/p>\n<p>This leaves us with the bigger question \u2013 who will fill the seat?&nbsp; An election year is not the time for a revolving door of co-hosts.&nbsp; Friday fill-in <strong>Ana Navarro <\/strong>would be a perfect fit, but she won\u2019t relocate to NYC.&nbsp; Perpetual also-ran, <strong>Rachel Campos<\/strong>, has surely already made herself available.&nbsp; What I believe the show needs is a newswoman.&nbsp; Of course, <strong>Meredith Vieira <\/strong>is the obvious answer.&nbsp; <strong>Diane Sawyer <\/strong>likely doesn\u2019t want to continue being a Barbara Walters stand-in.&nbsp; But what about <em>ABC<\/em>\u2019s former golden girl <strong>Elizabeth Vargas<\/strong>?&nbsp; She\u2019d fit in perfectly.&nbsp; Or, if the show wants to be really edgy, why not reach out to <strong>Megyn Kelly<\/strong>?&nbsp;
