Speaking of scandals, the boys at Dolce & Gabbana <\/em>sure stepped into it, didn’t they?\u00a0 It all started when Stefano Gabbana <\/strong>told Panorama<\/em> magazine, “No chemical offsprings and rented uterus: life has a natural flow, there are things that should not be changed.”\u00a0 Domenico Dolce <\/strong>spoke out specifically against artificial insemination and surrogates, calling the result “synthetic children”.\u00a0 In fairness, the interview was in a Spanish language magazine, and I’m sure the men were speaking in Italian, and I’m translating it into English.\u00a0 But it should be noted that these comments are not much different than things the designers have been saying for over a decade.<\/p>\n

This time, it created a firestorm.\u00a0 The biggest shriek came from Elton John<\/strong>, who has been draped with swaths of D&G <\/em>products.\u00a0 He took umbrage at his children being called “synthetic” and called for a boycott, adding, “I shall never wear Dolce and Gabbana <\/em>ever again.”\u00a0 Unfortunately, two days later he was photographed carrying a little D&G <\/em>shopping bag (he said it must have just been sitting in the house).\u00a0 Ryan Murphy <\/strong>said, “Their clothes are as ugly as their hate.”\u00a0 Ricky Martin <\/strong>Tweeted<\/em>, “ur voices R 2powerfull 2B spreading so much h8”.\u00a0 Madonna <\/strong>supported the boycott and added, “All babies contain a soul however they come to this earth and their families.”<\/p>\n

Time for damage control.\u00a0 Signor Dolce said, “I respect all the world, all the culture.\u00a0 I believe in the traditional family.\u00a0 It is impossible to change my culture for something different.”\u00a0 Signor Gabbana said, “We love gay couple.\u00a0 We are gay.\u00a0 We love gay couple.\u00a0 We love gay adoption.\u00a0 We love everything.\u00a0 It’s just an expression of my private point of view.”\u00a0 Whatever the hell that means, it didn’t help.\u00a0 The editorial director of their online magazine quit, and protestors have picketed the London D&G <\/em>store with placards saying, “Homophobia is not fashionable!”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
