It was without question one of the most THRILLING things I\u2019ve ever seen.&nbsp; For those who don\u2019t know, <strong><em>Bombshell<\/em><\/strong> was a musical about <strong>Marilyn Monroe <\/strong>that was being staged in the <em>NBC <\/em>series <strong><em>Smash<\/em><\/strong>.&nbsp; After the series was cancelled, fans clamored for a stage version of <em>Bombshell<\/em>.&nbsp; This concert performance of that score (written by <strong>Marc Shaiman <\/strong>and <strong>Scott Wittman<\/strong>) was a benefit in 2015 for <em>The Actors Fund <\/em>\u2013 and was fortuitously filmed professionally for archival purposes.&nbsp; Although it wasn\u2019t televised on <em>NBC <\/em>(where <em>Smash<\/em> aired), it was livestreamed on <em>People<\/em> Magazine\u2019s website \u2013 also as a benefit for <em>The Actors Fund <\/em>(to watch it, <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/tv\/bombshell-in-concert-smash-reunion-livestream\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">click here<\/a>).&nbsp; Since it was a benefit, union rules only allowed a week for some vocal and dance rehearsal in a studio, and then a few hours in the theatre the day of the show itself.&nbsp; Despite this tight schedule \u2013 to say nothing of the fact that the concert happened two years after the series\u2019 demise \u2013 everything was picture-perfect, including the thrilling choreography of <strong>Joshua Bergasse<\/strong>.&nbsp; The fact that <strong>Megan Hilty <\/strong>was effortless was expected from this <em>Broadway <\/em>vet.&nbsp; It was <strong>Katharine McPhee <\/strong>\u2013 at that point, a <em>Broadway <\/em>newbie \u2013 who blew me away.&nbsp; She handled intricate vocals during difficult dancing with aplomb.&nbsp; And it\u2019s impossible for me to let a <em>Smash<\/em> item end without noting the presence of the dreamy <strong>Wesley Taylor<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>For you <em>Smash<\/em>\/<em>Bombshell<\/em> fans, I have good news and bad news.&nbsp; After numerous efforts, coming up with a cohesive book for a Marilyn Monroe musical that would include all of the score has proven impossible.&nbsp; That\u2019s the bad news.&nbsp; The good news is that the original producers have announced plans for a musical based on <em>Smash<\/em> the series, which would retain most of the score.&nbsp; Should this happen, it could mean that there would be two Marilyn Monroe-centric musicals on <em>Broadway <\/em>at the same time \u2013 both written by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman.&nbsp; The duo has also written a musical version of <strong><em>Some Like It Hot<\/em><\/strong>, which is set for a <em>Broadway <\/em>bow in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Did you all watch Bombshell in Concert?&nbsp;
