{"id":88335,"date":"2022-01-16T23:12:17","date_gmt":"2022-01-17T07:12:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.billymasters.com\/custom\/?p=88335"},"modified":"2022-01-16T23:12:17","modified_gmt":"2022-01-17T07:12:17","slug":"billy-looks-at-colton","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.billymasters.com\/custom\/blog\/2022\/01\/16\/billy-looks-at-colton\/","title":{"rendered":"Billy Looks at Colton"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Planes are where I catch up on shows, so I was pleased to have <strong>Colton Underwood <\/strong>keeping me company.&nbsp; I was an unabashed <strong><em>Bachelor<\/em><\/strong> watcher until the ouster of <strong>Chris Harrison<\/strong>, and relished every twist and turn of Underwood\u2019s experiences on all three shows.&nbsp; Nothing that has happened since has surprised me \u2013 including <em>Netflix<\/em>\u2019s <strong><em>Coming Out Colton<\/em><\/strong>.&nbsp; This \u201creality show\u201d relishes \u2013 almost luxuriates \u2013 in staged sequences.&nbsp; Given his <em>Bachelor<\/em> past, Colton understands the importance of doing retakes of \u201cspontaneous\u201d conversations.&nbsp; But the people around him seem uncomfortable with the practice \u2013 particularly his parents and former coach.&nbsp; Also, I did laugh out loud when <strong>Gus Kenworthy <\/strong>answered Colton\u2019s phone call with, \u201cWhat up, girl?\u201d&nbsp; We also learned that Colton\u2019s interested in \u201cdaddies\u201d.&nbsp; Beyond that, it\u2019s simple, mindless entertainment\u2026but not without some merit.&nbsp; There\u2019s a particularly illuminating and touching sequence where Colton meets up with former football players who are gay \u2013 including <strong>David Kopay <\/strong>(who would make a terrific guest on <strong><em>Billy Masters LIVE<\/em><\/strong> when we resume shows in February).&nbsp; Colton\u2019s interaction with <strong>Michael Sam <\/strong>was awkward \u2013 did anyone else catch Sam formally introducing himself and shaking Colton\u2019s hand??&nbsp; Underwood expressed guilt for not standing by Sam when they were both drafted.&nbsp; Ultimately, the show seems to have three agendas: 1) to explain to people that gay people are just like everyone else, B) to redeem Colton\u2019s sordid reputation, iii) to keep Underwood in the spotlight.&nbsp; Personally, I\u2019m not sure which was their primary objective.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Planes are where I catch up on shows, so I was pleased to have Colton Underwood keeping me company.&nbsp; I was an unabashed Bachelor watcher until the ouster of Chris Harrison, and relished every twist and turn of Underwood\u2019s experiences on all three shows.&nbsp; Nothing that has happened since has surprised me \u2013 including Netflix\u2019s<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"ngg_post_thumbnail":0,"footnotes":"","jetpack_publicize_message":"","jetpack_publicize_feature_enabled":true,"jetpack_social_post_already_shared":false,"jetpack_social_options":{"image_generator_settings":{"template":"highway","default_image_id":0,"font":"","enabled":false},"version":2}},"categories":[18],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-88335","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-breaking"],"jetpack_publicize_connections":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.billymasters.com\/custom\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/88335","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.billymasters.com\/custom\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.billymasters.com\/custom\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.billymasters.com\/custom\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.billymasters.com\/custom\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=88335"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/www.billymasters.com\/custom\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/88335\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":88336,"href":"https:\/\/www.billymasters.com\/custom\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/88335\/revisions\/88336"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.billymasters.com\/custom\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=88335"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.billymasters.com\/custom\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=88335"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.billymasters.com\/custom\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=88335"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
