\u201cYou all saw the news.  Whoopi <\/strong>will be back here in two weeks.<\/em>\u201d <\/em><\/span> 
\n\u2013 <\/em>Joy Behar <\/strong>addresses Whoopi Goldberg\u2019s suspension from The View<\/em><\/strong>.  And that\u2019s the way it is.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

When Sharon Osbourne <\/strong>was pushed off The Talk<\/em><\/strong> for defending free speech, I said it was a slippery slope.  And here we are, with Whoopi Goldberg <\/strong>being suspended from The View<\/em><\/strong>.  If I belonged to the Barbara Walters School of Journalism <\/em><\/strong>\u2013 the graduation ceremony took place at Stonehenge<\/em> \u2013 I\u2019d feel compelled to regurgitate details of both instances.  Suffice it to say, Osbourne defended her friend Piers Morgan<\/strong>\u2019s right to express an opinion about Meghan Markle <\/strong>\u2013 and suddenly was branded a racist.  Likewise, Whoopi expressed an opinion about the Holocaust <\/em>which was not altogether wrong.  She said, \u201cThe Holocaust <\/em>isn\u2019t about race\u2026it\u2019s about man\u2019s inhumanity to man.\u201d  What a difference one word makes.  Had she said, \u201cThe Holocaust <\/em>isn\u2019t ONLY about race\u201d, she would have been fine, because obviously the Nazis <\/em>also targeted gay people and various religious groups.  One could easily consider the Holocaust <\/em>under the umbrella of \u201cman\u2019s inhumanity to man\u201d.  It\u2019s like when people say \u201cAll lives matter\u201d, instead of just \u201cblack lives\u201d or \u201cgay lives\u201d or any one group\u2019s lives matter.  They can all be true simultaneously.  Anyway, Whoopi apologized on the air, and led a lengthy discussion with Jonathan Greenblatt <\/strong>of the Anti-Defamation League<\/em>.  Shortly after that show, ABC<\/em> announced she was being put on a 2-week unpaid suspension.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s worth noting that in 25 years of vitriol, hate speech, split-screens, arguments, and walk-offs, this is the first time ABC<\/em> has suspended a View<\/em> co-host.  Things that make you go \u201cHmmm\u201d.  I\u2019m curious \u2013 when did intent become irrelevant?  Clearly Whoopi\u2019s statement was not meant to offend anyone.  Her friend and frequent collaborator Bruce Vilanch <\/strong>points out that not only has he never found Goldberg to have even a speck of anti-Semitism, the stage name she chose is Jewish!  Bill Geddie<\/strong>, co-creator and former executive producer of The View<\/em> said the following: \u201cIt scares me that we\u2019ve come to this crossroads and now we as a culture need to get a handle on this insanity before it chokes us all.\u201d  If the co-hosts are not free to have honest and open discussions, what\u2019s the point of the show?  It\u2019s called The View<\/em>, after all!  I was curious if any of Whoopi\u2019s co-hosts would speak up on her behalf?  Other than Ana Navarro<\/strong>, they were all predictably silent.  It begs the question \u2013 will Whoopi return?  Remember \u2013 Sharon was initially suspended, too.<\/p>\n
