Physical assault is never an answer.  Heck, it\u2019s never even a question.  But a story is a story, so I must reluctantly talk about it.  For those of you who have been living under a rock, let me briefly recount the story of the week.  Yury Medvedev<\/strong>, a Russian colonel, was leading a brigade in the fight to take Ukraine.  I say \u201cwas\u201d because during their hurried retreat, his own men ran over him\u2026with a tank!  What could be a bigger story than that?<\/p>\n

When I would misbehave as a child, I\u2019d apologize, and Big Mama Masters <\/strong>would roll her eyes and say, \u201cYou\u2019re only sorry that you got caught.\u201d  I believe that is why Will Smith <\/strong>is \u201cheartbroken\u201d.  Apparently all gay men turn into their mothers, because I, too, rolled my eyes during the Oscars <\/em><\/strong>\u2013 not unlike that thespian, Jada Pinkett Smith<\/strong>!  And it bears repeating \u2013 Will Smith laughed heartily when Chris Rock <\/strong>implied that Jada could be hired to star in a movie.  Heck, we all laughed at that!  According to onlookers, after the eye roll, Jada leaned back and said something to Will.  Perhaps it was some Scientology <\/em>trigger right out of The Manchurian Candidate<\/em><\/strong>.  What followed was not a crime of passion, because Smith took his time as he strode onto the stage purposely.  The only thing he didn\u2019t say was, \u201cHold my hoops!\u201d  It may have been the most shocking thing on live TV since Jack Ruby<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

As you know, the LAPD <\/em>spoke to Chris Rock after the \u201cincident\u201d, and he declined to press charges against Smith.  But when the Academy wanted to have Smith ejected, Oscars <\/em>producer Will Packer <\/strong>made the final decision.  \u201cI immediately went to the Academy leadership that was on-site and said, \u2018Chris Rock doesn\u2019t want that.  Rock has made it clear that he does not want to make a bad situation worse.\u2019  That was Chris\u2019 energy.  His tone was not retaliatory, his tone was not aggressively angry.\u201d  Except Chris only said he wouldn\u2019t press charges \u2013 he never said he didn\u2019t want Will thrown out.  Plus, ejecting Smith would have set Wanda Sykes <\/strong>up for a priceless moment.  \u201cI wanted to be able to run out and say, \u2018Will couldn\u2019t be here tonight…\u201d  Jim Carrey <\/strong>had choice words to say about Will remaining to accept his Oscar<\/em>.  \u201cI was sickened.  I was sickened by the standing ovation.  I felt like Hollywood is just spineless en masse<\/em>.  It really felt like we\u2019re not the cool club anymore.\u201d  Carrey added that if he were in Rock\u2019s place, he would have announced the next morning that he was suing Will Smith for $200 million.<\/p>\n

In the midst of all this drama, another black comedian made news by coming out.  In his HBO <\/em>special, Jerrod Carmichael <\/strong>(from The Carmichael Show<\/em><\/strong>) revealed that he\u2019s gay.  He added, \u201cI thought I\u2019d never, ever come out.  At many points I thought I\u2019d rather die than confront the truth of that, to actually say it to people.  Because I know it changes some people\u2019s perceptions of me.\u201d  It should be noted that his special, Rothaniel<\/em><\/strong>, was taped in February at the Blue Note Jazz Club <\/em>in NYC\u2026and yet news of his sexuality never broke.<\/p>\n
