She had to choose between being in a musical by <strong>Stephen Sondheim <\/strong>and one by <strong>Stephen Schwartz<\/strong>.&nbsp; The Sondheim show was <strong><em>Bounce<\/em><\/strong> (previously called <strong><em>Wise Guys<\/em><\/strong>).&nbsp; The other turned out to be <strong><em>Wicked<\/em><\/strong>.&nbsp; She made her choice, and Sondheim wrote her the following.&nbsp; \u201cThank you for the thoughtful and generous note.&nbsp; I, too, was disappointed, but I understand completely.&nbsp; I hope that <em>Wicked <\/em>turns out to be everything you want it to be (and that Steve wants it to be, too).\u201d&nbsp; The rest is history.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Josh Groban <\/strong>and <strong>Annaleigh Ashford <\/strong>are set to leave this terribly misguided revival of <strong><em>Sweeney Todd<\/em><\/strong> on January 14<sup>th<\/sup>.&nbsp; One would think that the show would simply shutter and slink away; left to become a sad, little footnote in some <em>Broadway <\/em>annals.&nbsp; But, no \u2013 the show must go on (must it?).&nbsp; If you thought Josh Groban was a curious choice for the <em>Demon Barber of Fleet Street<\/em>, what do you think of <strong>Aaron Tveit<\/strong>?&nbsp; Should a <em>Sweeney<\/em> have abs of steel?&nbsp; His Mrs. Lovett will be the fantastically talented, and yet equally miscast <strong>Sutton Foster<\/strong>.&nbsp; I know there are roles Sutton covets \u2013 like Mama Rose.&nbsp; But did she learn nothing from <strong><em>The Music Man<\/em><\/strong>?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.billymasters.com\/custom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/colorbar1.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-568\" src=\"http:\/\/www.billymasters.com\/custom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/colorbar1.gif\" alt=\"colorbar1\" width=\"500\" height=\"1\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>What about a musical staring <strong>John Travolta <\/strong>and <strong>Katherine Heigl<\/strong>?&nbsp; And again, I know what you\u2019re thinking \u2013 did he learn nothing from <strong><em>Hairspray<\/em><\/strong>?&nbsp; Or those <em>T-Mobile <\/em>commercials?&nbsp; And who has Heigl on their radar?&nbsp; If there\u2019s anything less plausible than a musical starring this pair, it\u2019s that the name of it is\u2026and I couldn\u2019t make this up if I tried\u2026<strong><em>That\u2019s Amore!<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp; The writer says, \u201cJohn and Katherine are fantastic together, and during rehearsals they had so much chemistry.&nbsp; We\u2019re not breaking into big production numbers, but I wanted to try something a little different.&nbsp; We\u2019ve recorded about seven songs so far with a full orchestra, and he\u2019s just a magical person.&nbsp; One of the numbers is a real throw back to <strong>Fred Astaire <\/strong>and <strong>Gene Kelly<\/strong>.\u201d&nbsp; I don\u2019t look at Travolta and immediately think of Astaire or Kelly.&nbsp; But another classic image does spring to mind \u2013 those dancing hippos in <strong><em>Fantasia<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.billymasters.com\/custom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/colorbar1.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-568\" src=\"http:\/\/www.billymasters.com\/custom\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/colorbar1.gif\" alt=\"colorbar1\" width=\"500\" height=\"1\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Someone who would like to return to <em>Broadway <\/em>is newlywed <strong>Chris Evans<\/strong>.&nbsp; He told the crowd at <em>New York Comic-Con <\/em>that he hopes to find a project soon.&nbsp; \u201cI\u2019m looking.&nbsp; I\u2019d love to actually try and find something next year, but it\u2019s tough because you find something that you are kind of into that could be cool but like I said, once you\u2019re in it, you are in it.&nbsp; It usually runs three, four or five months.&nbsp; So, it\u2019s got to be something that you don\u2019t just love, but it\u2019s got to be something that you\u2019re ready to explore from different angles every single night for a very long time.\u201d&nbsp;
