\n\u2013 <\/em>Joe Biden<\/strong>\u2018s most pointed attack on Donald Trump <\/strong>\u2013 if one discounts the use of the
\nword \u201cmalarkey\u201d.  I should mention that \u201cAlley Cat\u201d was a term popular in the 1920s \u2013
\nwhich pre-dates even Biden.  The only thing that could have made it better is if he did the dance
\n\u2013 still popular at weddings all over these United States.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Here we are, poised to celebrate the Fourth of July.  And you know what that means?  Provincetown.  For those of you who have not partaked (partaken?) of our Cape Cod enclave, let me explain that various weeks in Ptown have themes.  There is Bear Week<\/em>, Lesbian Week<\/em>, Family Week<\/em>, etc.  The week of Fourth of July is known as Circuit Week<\/em>, because that\u2019s when Ptown is packed to the gills with circuit boys \u2013 young lads with single-digit body fat, and often similar IQ scores (not that anyone\u2019s doing standardized testing).  So, I thought I would recap some of the more notable venues and their headliners, which we\u2019ve covered previously.  I\u2019ll also fill in some gaps \u2013 a skill that comes in handy on Circuit Week!<\/p>\n

The Crown and Anchor <\/em>is the center of Provincetown, and they have Varla Jean Merman<\/strong>, Thirsty Burlington<\/strong>, and Dina Martina<\/strong>.  The Post Office Caf\u00e9 and Cabaret <\/em>has Judy Gold<\/strong>, Anita Cocktail<\/strong>, The Devil Wears Payless<\/em><\/strong>, and appearances throughout the summer by John McDaniel<\/strong>, Branden & James<\/strong>, Nicolas King <\/strong>and John Hill<\/strong>.  The Pilgrim House <\/em>has Miss Richfield 1981 <\/strong>and Miss Conception<\/strong>.  The Provincetown Theatre <\/em>has The Rocky Horror Show<\/em><\/strong>.  And Town Hall <\/em>is utilized by various producers, including Mark Cortale <\/strong>(formerly of the Provincetown Art House<\/em>), who is bringing in Claybourne Elder<\/strong>, Jinkx Monsoon<\/strong>, Cheyenne Jackson<\/strong>, Bianca Del Rio<\/strong>, Audra McDonald<\/strong>, and Marilyn Maye<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Speaking of the Art House<\/em>, Ginger Minj <\/strong>is now producing events there under what can only be described as murky circumstances.  Nonetheless, one must acknowledge there\u2019s a bevy of entertainers \u2013 including Minj herself.  However, my readers will be particularly pleased to note the rare opportunity to see Nick Adams <\/strong>July 10-13.  It\u2019s oft-said that nobody has it all.  But Nick certainly comes close \u2013 as the photos on BillyMasters.com<\/u><\/strong><\/a> will attest to.  And $50 for a front-row seat?  A bargain!  Get more details and tickets at LiveAtTheArtHouse.com<\/u><\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s also the Red Room<\/em>, which is hosting some of our favorites all summer long.  Edie <\/strong>will be in residence as Queen of the Desert<\/em><\/strong>.  Our pal Alison Arngrim <\/strong>is bringing her popular Confessions of a Prairie Bitch<\/em><\/strong> to town July 12-14.  The outrageous Jackie Beat <\/strong>holds court July 16-18.  Edmund Bagnell <\/strong>will be playing with himself (on the violin, silly) and singing sweet songs August 9-11.  And much, much more.  Full listings at RedRoom.Club<\/u><\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

I hasten to add that the Red Room <\/em>also hosts a sizzling weekly underwear party on Thursdays \u2013 and it\u2019s well-documented how much I enjoy those!  So much so that I also make it a habit to attend the ones at Purgatory <\/em>at the Gifford House <\/em>on Saturdays.  And if I\u2019m not too tired, I\u2019ll even go to their Sunday leather night…if I\u2019m not already tied up.<\/p>\n

One of the most popular events in Provincetown history is Ryan Landry<\/strong>\u2019s legendary Showgirls<\/em><\/strong>.  This weekly variety show takes place on Mondays and up until last season was at the Crown and Anchor<\/em>.  Then they found themselves homeless.  Happily, a new venue has been secured \u2013 the charming Provincetown Inn<\/em>.  Mark my words, it will be THE place to go every Monday night.  Grab your tickets at House of La Rue <\/em>\u2013 the show sells out quickly.<\/p>\n

To call Varla Jean Merman <\/strong>an institution would be like saying she should be in an institution…both statements being absolutely true.  This year, GLBTQ Legal Advocates & Defenders <\/em>(GLAD <\/em>\u2013 with only one \u201cA\u201d) is honoring Varla (aka Jeffery Roberson<\/strong>) at their 43rd<\/sup> annual Summer Party <\/em>in Provincetown.  They noted her 27th<\/sup> consecutive year entertaining the masses in Provincetown \u2013 often one at a time, but small groups can also be accommodated \u2013 not to mention her numerous philanthropic activities.  Tickets for this fundraising soir\u00e9e<\/em> can be had at GLAD.org<\/u><\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
