Longtime readers know nothing makes me happier than the annual Kennedy Center Honors<\/em><\/strong>.  Oh, sure, it\u2019s lost a bit of luster with a revolving door of hosts.  Give me the days when Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg <\/strong>would amble out, mosey on over to the podium and welcome people in those dulcet tones more appropriate for a very special episode of Bonanza<\/em><\/strong>.  Now, it\u2019s anyone\u2019s guess who\u2019ll walk onstage.  So let\u2019s talk about the recipients.  For years, a popular online game has been to predict who won\u2019t make the cut.  Happily, Liza Minnelli<\/strong>\u2019s streak as the most overlooked person is intact.  The Susan Lucci <\/strong>of the Kennedy Center Honors <\/em>once again didn\u2019t get a nod.  She\u2019s been passed over in favor of Francis Ford Coppola<\/strong>, Bonnie Raitt<\/strong>, jazz trumpeter Arturo Sandoval<\/strong>, The Grateful Dead <\/em><\/strong>and The Apollo Theatre<\/em>.  I remind everyone that the Kennedy Center Honors <\/em>are NOT given out posthumously \u2013 so someone better get on the stick!<\/p>\n

Prior to winging my way to the Continent, I made a quick day trip to Ogunquit and heard lots of excited chatter about the Ogunquit Playhouse<\/em>\u2019s production of A Little Night Music<\/em><\/strong>.  Sure, most of it had to do with Friends<\/em><\/strong> chanteuse<\/em>, Kathleen Turner<\/strong>.  But many were excited that Broadway <\/em>belter Julia Murney <\/strong>would be playing the role of Desiree.  Since Murney is a most compelling stage presence, I\u2019m intrigued to see what she\u2019ll do with the part when I get back.  It runs through August 17, and what few tickets are left can be snagged at OgunquitPlayhouse.org<\/u><\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

A late addition to the Provincetown summer lineup takes place at the end of the season at the Provincetown Theater<\/em><\/strong>.  Lisa Lampanelli <\/strong>will be doing a reading of her new solo show, Lisa Lampanelli: Irrelevant!<\/em><\/strong> on August 31st<\/sup>.  This is her second time trying out new material at the famed venue since her 2019 reading of The Gorge<\/em><\/strong>.  This show chronicles the comedienne\u2019s rise to prominence as a stand-up, leaving it behind to become a life coach, and suddenly feeling…\u201cirrelevant\u201d.  I can\u2019t wait to see it!  You can grab tickets at ProvincetownTheater.org<\/u><\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n
