In a move that has surprised nobody, Hulu <\/em>has picked up a sitcom being termed as the gay Golden Girls<\/em><\/strong>.  As we\u2019ve previously reported, Mid-Century Modern<\/em><\/strong> is about three gay men of a certain age who move in together in Palm Springs \u2013 and one brings his mother.  The pilot was written by David Kohan <\/strong>and Max Mutchnick <\/strong>\u2013 creators of Will & Grace<\/em><\/strong>.  Four weeks after being written, the pilot was shot in front of a live studio audience, with the legendary James Burrows <\/strong>directing.  Less than two months later, Hulu <\/em>picked up the show.  Nathan Lane<\/strong> is one roommate, with Linda Lavin <\/strong>playing his mother (think Dorothy and Sophia).  Matt Bomer <\/strong>is a Morman who is described as \u201cpure of heart…also hard of body and soft of head.\u201d  He\u2019s Rose.  Nathan Lee Graham<\/strong>\u2019s character is described as refined and dignified, so I guess he\u2019s Dr. Smith \u2013 damn, there I go channel surfing again!<\/p>\n

Those of you holding your breath for a Facts of Life<\/em><\/strong> reunion are probably out of luck.  According to sources, the cast got thisclose to getting back together…that is, until money started to be discussed (it should be noted that when Jimmy Kimmel <\/strong>hosted one of those live all-star episodes, Lisa Whelchel <\/strong>performed the theme song and was then joined by Kim Fields <\/strong>and Mindy Cohn <\/strong>to introduce the show).  During a chat with Jeff Lewis <\/strong>on SiriusXM<\/em><\/strong>, Cohn revealed that the cast members were contacted during the pandemic about doing a full-scale reunion for Norman Lear<\/strong>.  They were all interested, writers were hired, and then…kaboom!  \u201cOne of the girls went behind our backs and tried to make a separate deal for a spinoff just for herself and devastated the rest of us.\u201d  She added, \u201cA couple of people can\u2019t move past it, don\u2019t want to move past it.  We are not as united.  We were united for 40 years over not talking about each other, not doing dirty, not, you know, all for one, one for all.  And this kind of wrecked that, which is sad.  Really sad.\u201d  You take the good, you take the bad, you take them both, and there you have…a mess!<\/p>\n

Jordan Peele <\/strong>just announced that he\u2019s reviving the hidden camera show Scare Tactics<\/em><\/strong> for the USA Network<\/em>.  Some of you may know that when the show debuted in 2003, the host was Shannen Doherty <\/strong>(immortalized in a particularly funny MADtv<\/em><\/strong> sketch).  While I\u2019m sure Peele\u2019s version has been in the works for a while, the timing of the announcement is dubious, to say the least.  Still, I\u2019m in favor of anything that keeps Shannen\u2019s legacy alive.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
