Curiously, the musical was a major hit in London\u2019s <em>West End<\/em> where it won multiple awards.&nbsp; On <em>Broadway<\/em>, it was universally panned by critics.&nbsp; What changed?&nbsp; We\u2019re told the creators tinkered with the show in between the runs.&nbsp; And let us not forget that <strong>Andrew Rannells <\/strong>created the role of <strong>Jim Bakker <\/strong>in London, but he was replaced on <em>Broadway <\/em>by <strong>Christian Borle <\/strong>due to a \u201ccontract disagreement\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>In far happier news, the reunion of original <strong><em>Hairspray<\/em><\/strong> gals <strong>Marissa Jaret Winokur<\/strong>, <strong>Kerry Butler <\/strong>and <strong>Laura Bell Bundy <\/strong>at <em>New World Stages <\/em>has been extended.&nbsp; <strong><em>Mama, I\u2019m a Big Girl Now<\/em><\/strong> was slated for a one-month off-Broadway run.&nbsp; It\u2019s been extended a second month and will now close on December 21<sup>st<\/sup>.&nbsp; The show got a ringing endorsement from <em>Hairspray<\/em> creators <strong>Marc Shaiman <\/strong>and <strong>Scott Wittman<\/strong>.&nbsp; Marc was so ebullient, he posted this: \u201cIf you love musicals, friendship, motherhood and outright joy, I can\u2019t encourage you enough to go see this delightful show.&nbsp; I\u2019m so glad Scott Wittman and I stopped our lawyer from sending them a cease-and-desist order!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of shows you shouldn\u2019t miss, there are two I\u2019m flying to see in Los Angeles.&nbsp; The fantastic <em>Catalina Jazz Club <\/em>in Hollywood will present the incomparable <strong>Marilyn Maye <\/strong>on Tuesday, December 3<sup>rd<\/sup> and <em>Broadway<\/em>\u2019s own <strong>Hugh Panaro <\/strong>on Thursday, December 5<sup>th<\/sup>.&nbsp;
