Time for our 29th<\/sup> installment of the Year in Review<\/em><\/strong>.  The person I will remember most this year is Shannen Doherty<\/strong>.  In 2024, she reclaimed her power and spoke her truth.  True, she didn\u2019t beat cancer, but she bravely faced it head-on.  Her podcast, Let\u2019s Be Clear<\/em><\/strong>, became a living autobiography.  She and Holly Marie Combs <\/strong>explained what went down on Charmed<\/em><\/strong> from their perspective, she reunited with some 90210<\/em><\/strong> co-stars, and talked with many loved ones.  She even planned her own memorial.  \u201cThere\u2019s a lot of people that I think would show up that I don\u2019t want there… So I kinda want to take the pressure off them and I want my funeral to be like a love fest.  I don\u2019t want people to be crying or people to privately be like, \u2018Thank God that bitch is dead now.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

It was also the Year of Cher<\/strong><\/em>.  Sure, it ended with an induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame <\/em>and acclaim for part one of her autobiography.  But it began with her trying to control\/save her son, Elijah Blue Allman<\/strong>.  Depending who you ask, Cher may have had him abducted from a NYC hotel room and put into an undisclosed rehab \u2013 while trying to become his conservator.  But then, Elijah dramatically appeared in court with on-again\/off-again wife Mariangela<\/strong>!  After months of battling, Cher dropped her legal challenges.  After all, she had that book to promote.<\/p>\n

Nicole Scherzinger <\/strong>kicked off the year wowing London audiences by starring in a radical revival of Sunset Blvd<\/em><\/strong>.  She repeated that feat on Broadway<\/em>, a triumph which was short-lived.  She inadvertently alienated some fans with a social media post that was interpreted as pro-MAGA.  Will Patti LuPone<\/strong>\u2019s effusive endorsement help, or has Nicole already lost the Tony Award <\/em>6 months before nominations?  With Audra <\/strong>in the race, it probably doesn\u2019t matter.<\/p>\n

One minute we\u2019re told Celine Dion <\/strong>is at death\u2019s doorstep, the next thing you know she\u2019s onstage at the Grammys<\/em>.  Then she\u2019s singing at the Olympics<\/em>.  And then at a fashion show.  Whether it was live or Memorex<\/em> didn\u2019t matter.  The fact that she walked out there unassisted was a victory.<\/p>\n

The death of reclusive Richard Simmons <\/strong>shocked me \u2013 especially since Pauly<\/strong> Shore<\/strong> planned to star in a biopic.  Perhaps Simmons\u2019 last words were \u201cover my dead body\u201d!  Gay baseball star Billy Bean<\/strong>, Madonna<\/strong>\u2019s brother Christopher Ciccone<\/strong>, Mitzi Gaynor<\/strong>, Teri Garr<\/strong>, Gavin Creel <\/strong>and Ken Page <\/strong>were a few others that will be missed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
