{"id":93378,"date":"2024-12-29T16:32:00","date_gmt":"2024-12-30T00:32:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.billymasters.com\/custom\/?p=93378"},"modified":"2024-12-29T16:32:00","modified_gmt":"2024-12-30T00:32:00","slug":"tv-documentary-scandals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.billymasters.com\/custom\/blog\/2024\/12\/29\/tv-documentary-scandals\/","title":{"rendered":"TV Documentary Scandals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>TV documentaries were the catalyst for several scandals.&nbsp; <em>Lifetime<\/em>\u2019s <strong><em>Where is Wendy Williams? <\/em><\/strong>may not have surprised us, but it was still shocking.&nbsp; Despite her health issues, she was out in August shopping for holistic aids.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Netflix <\/em>doc <strong><em>White Hot: The Rise &amp; Fall of Abercrombie &amp; Fitch<\/em><\/strong> focused on tawdry activity by CEO <strong>Mike Jeffries<\/strong>.&nbsp; The year ended with him in a Palm Beach courtroom facing sex trafficking charges.&nbsp; But is he mentally competent?&nbsp; I think so, but paperwork has been filed and there is a February 6<sup>th<\/sup> deadline for medical evaluation.<\/p>\n<p>UK\u2019s <em>Channel 4 <\/em>ran <strong><em>Spacey Unmasked<\/em><\/strong> which focused on <strong>Kevin<\/strong>\u2019s alleged victims.&nbsp; Then a funny thing happened \u2013 Spacey fought back.&nbsp; Sure, he\u2019s defended himself in court.&nbsp; But now he sat with <strong>Piers Morgan <\/strong>for a full 90 minutes&#8230;and even admitted to being \u201chandsy\u201d!&nbsp; Since then, many stars spoke up on his behalf.&nbsp; People like <strong>Sharon Stone<\/strong>, <strong>F. Murray Abraham <\/strong>and <strong>Liam Neeson <\/strong>publicly called for him to have a second chance.&nbsp; Will it happen?<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s not much more to say about those poor, misunderstood <strong>Men\u00e9ndez <\/strong>brothers.&nbsp; Between a docudrama and a documentary, public support was on their side \u2013 as was most of their surviving family.&nbsp; But an election that ousted sympathetic LA DA <strong>George Gasc\u00f3n <\/strong>and installed incoming DA <strong>Nathan Hochman <\/strong>could thwart any hope the boys had.&nbsp; As the year drew to a close, <strong>Lyle<\/strong>\u2019s wife <strong>Rebecca <\/strong>filed for divorce!&nbsp; You know \u2013 just in case he gets out.<\/p>\n<p>The lurid documentary <strong><em>Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV<\/em><\/strong> enumerated the many misdeeds against child actors.&nbsp; While most of the claims were decades old, they nonetheless provoked strong feelings and shock.&nbsp; Plus, how can you ignore any show that makes a star of <strong>Drake Bell <\/strong>\u2013 who, I dare say, looked quite fetching.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>TV documentaries were the catalyst for several scandals.&nbsp; Lifetime\u2019s Where is Wendy Williams? may not have surprised us, but it was still shocking.&nbsp; Despite her health issues, she was out in August shopping for holistic aids.
