I dunno how it took 29 years of columns and scores of Hallmark movies for me to finally recognize the truth in something I\u2019ve said for years \u2013 you CAN\u2019T have it all.  People tell you that you can, but let me tell you the first truth of the New Year.  Life is full of hard choices.  If you really want one thing, you must miss out on something else.  If you want to lie on the beach, you cannot be in Antarctica.  Take it from me…and Lacey Chabert<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s make that my New Year\u2019s resolution \u2013 to tell you the absolute truth…as often as humanly possible.  So here\u2019s one \u2013 for the first time in decades, I did not ring in the New Year with a Lindsay Wagner <\/strong>movie.  That\u2019s because Miss Wagner didn\u2019t make a movie this year.  I ran into this problem last year, when I reached out to the producer of When Jack Came Back<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 a film that hadn\u2019t yet come out (it can now be seen on Tubi<\/em>).  I was one of the first people who got to see Lindsay playing a mother with Alzheimer\u2019s.  How many of her dozens of fans around the world can say that?<\/p>\n

Speaking of ailing parents, the news is not good from Casa Masters<\/em><\/strong>.  It started a few months ago with Big Daddy<\/strong>.  Now Big Mama <\/strong>is laid up.  And you know who picks up the slack…among other things?  Yours truly.  You know what a crimp this puts into my sex life?  \u201cWhat\u2019s that beeping?  That\u2019s just Mama\u2019s life support, baby.  Does it turn you on?  No, that steady noise doesn\u2019t mean anything!\u201d  It\u2019s been hell!  I certainly don\u2019t begrudge them the care and attention they deserve.  And I certainly don\u2019t wish them ill.  But lately I\u2019m starting to envy Conan O\u2019Brien<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Patti LuPone <\/strong>hosted a swanky New Year\u2019s Eve shindig with a number of queer (and queer-adjacent) guests.  Folk like Randy Rainbow<\/strong>, Cole Escola<\/strong>, and…wait a minute \u2013 was that Nicole Scherzinger<\/strong>?  Yes, the former Norma Desmond and the current Norma Desmond joined forces for a spirited rendition of \u201cAuld Lang Syne\u201d \u2013 complete with at least two-and-a-half part harmony.  That they didn\u2019t duet on \u201cThe Perfect Year\u201d is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity lost forever.  At least they toasted each other with Norma\u2019s last line from act one of Sunset Blvd<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 which you can see on BillyMasters.com<\/u><\/strong><\/a>.  BTW, after their duties on CNN<\/em>, both Anderson Cooper <\/strong>and Andy Cohen <\/strong>slipped into the soir\u00e9e <\/em>\u2013 at least I think it was a soir\u00e9e <\/em>they slipped into.<\/p>\n

By the by, Patti is everywhere.  After enjoying a scenery-chewing role on Agatha All Along<\/em><\/strong>, we hear La LuPone<\/em> will be featured on several episodes of And Just Like That…<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 whenever that long-awaited third season drops.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
