Last week, El Presidente <\/em>went to survey one of his latest acquisitions \u2013 The Kennedy Center<\/em>.  He was accompanied by the press and had his photo taken in the presidential box, arms aloft as if some ersatz Evita Peron<\/strong>.  Make no mistake \u2013 he\u2019s got big plans.  He shared some of them, along with his cultural taste.  \u201cI never liked Hamilton<\/em><\/strong> very much.  I never liked it.  But we are going to have some really good shows.  Come here and watch it, and you\u2019ll see over a period of time it will improve very greatly physically, and we\u2019re going to get some very good shows.  The thing that does well as Broadway <\/em>hits.\u201d  He\u2019s also considering hosting The Kennedy Center Honors <\/em><\/strong>himself, and perhaps even bestowing the award onto posthumous recipients.  I guess that means Liza <\/strong>still has a shot!<\/p>\n

At roughly the same time, Harvey Fierstein <\/strong>talked about the same thing on social media.  \u201cI have been banned from THE KENNEDY CENTER.\u201d  He added, \u201cI have been in the struggle for our civil rights for more than 50 years only to watch them snatched away by a man who actually couldn\u2019t care less.  He does this stuff only to placate the religious right so they\u2019ll look the other way as he savages our political system for his own glorification.\u201d  One of the first people to respond was Richard Grenell<\/strong>, the Kennedy<\/em> Center<\/em>\u2019s interim president.  \u201cThis is a total lie.  Whoever told you this (because you obviously didn\u2019t do your own research) should be fired from your team for purposefully making you look foolish.  I, too, have been in the fight for equality for decades.  I\u2019m the President of the Kennedy<\/em> Center<\/em> and first openly gay U.S. Cabinet <\/em>official.  I was appointed by @DonaldJTrumpJr to both jobs.  You aren\u2019t banned.  In fact, come do Hairspray <\/em><\/strong>or La Cage <\/em><\/strong>here at the Kennedy<\/em> Center<\/em>.  This is your personal invite.  Let\u2019s meet.  If, however, you can\u2019t handle diverse opinions and want to be inclusive of everyone, that is.\u201d  First, I do hope he wasn\u2019t hired by Donald Trump Jr<\/strong>. \u2013 unless he\u2019s making some bold revelation.  Secondly, I would truly love to see El <\/em>in the presidential box at a Fierstein show.  What a hoot!<\/p>\n

Remember the big-screen remake of La Cage<\/em><\/strong> with Nathan Lane<\/strong> and Robin Williams<\/strong>?  The hotel that the couple owned in The Birdcage<\/em><\/strong> is getting quite a make-over.  The Raleigh Hotel <\/em>in South Beach is poised to get a $1 billion facelift \u2013 which is pretty minor by SoBe standards.  It will be turned into a boutique hotel and luxury apartments called The Rosewood Hotel & Residences<\/em>.  Allegedly, there\u2019s already over $250 million in pre-sales.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
