Since I\u2019m a creature of habit, I took a quick drive down to Provincetown to see Varla Jean Merman<\/strong>\u2019s latest offering, The Drowsy Chappell Roan<\/em><\/strong>.  Fans of last year\u2019s Errors Tour<\/em><\/strong> will be tickled to find Varla has moved on from Taylor <\/strong>to seamlessly shaft a slew of sappy singers \u2013 from Chappell <\/strong>to people like Sabrina Carpenter<\/strong>, Billie Eilish<\/strong>, Dua Lipa<\/strong>, Miley Cyrus<\/strong>, and even Trudie Styler <\/strong>(Mrs. Sting <\/strong>to you).  Trust me, nobody is spared \u2013 including R. Kelly<\/strong>, P. Diddy<\/strong>, and even people with two full names!  The parodies are as sharp as ever, and the visuals are outstanding.  The secret weapon?  No, not Varla\u2019s dog Jasper<\/strong>.  It\u2019s Merman\u2019s long-suffering assistant, Brian<\/strong>, who manages to top himself \u2013 a skill much in demand in Provincetown.  What is a Varla show without a touching ending \u2013 and this one touched me in a very special place…or was that the waiter.  It\u2019s a fast, frolicking, rip-roaring show with some outrageous costumes, clever insights, and a whole lotta laughs.  She\u2019ll be at The Crown and Anchor <\/em>(OnlyAtTheCrown.com<\/u><\/strong><\/a>) through September 20th<\/sup>. And then, she hits the road!<\/p>\n

Speaking of touring, the Jonas Brothers <\/em><\/strong>planned their large-scale Greetings From Your Hometown<\/em> <\/strong>tour for this summer and fall.  But demand hasn\u2019t exactly been what they anticipated, which led to some of the venues being…well, \u201cdownsized\u201d.  The show at LA\u2019s Dodger Stadium<\/em> will now take place at the Intuit Dome <\/em>in Inglewood.  The Philly show at Citizens Bank Park <\/em>will now take place at the Freedom Mortgage Pavilion<\/em>.  Chicago\u2019s Wrigley Field <\/em>has moved to Tinley Park\u2019s Credit Union <\/em>1 Am<\/em>phitheatre<\/em>.  And the DC show at Nationals Park <\/em>will now slide into Jiffy Lube Live<\/em>.  Sometimes you can’t go home again.<\/p>\n

Last week, the new production of Evita<\/em><\/strong> opened in London.  And, as long as you don\u2019t mind seeing the hit song sung on a video screen, I suppose it\u2019s fine.  You\u2019d be forgiven if you thought this was a rehash of Sunset Blvd<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 no sets, leads in underwear and blood.  It just screams Nicole Scherzinger<\/strong>.  Once Scherzy wraps up on Broadway<\/em>, she\u2019s taking her show on the road \u2013 her solo show, that is.  While details are as scant as her outfits, we know a few details.  We already announced she\u2019s playing Carnegie Hall <\/em>on October 8th<\/sup> at 8PM (something tells me there could be a midnight \u201cadult-only\u201d show).  Typically, performers like to try out their material out of town.  So Nicole will run through the show on October 6th<\/sup>…at the Royal Albert Hall <\/em>in London!  Then she hits Disney Hall <\/em>in Los Angeles on October 30th<\/sup>.  We\u2019re told talk of a Vegas residency is ongoing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
