At long last, Dolly Parton <\/strong>has unveiled her long-awaited musical biography.  Dolly: A True Original Musical<\/em><\/strong> had its world premiere at Nashville\u2019s Fisher Center for the Performing Arts <\/em>last week.  Similar to the Cher<\/strong> and Donna Summer <\/strong>musicals, this show features three actresses playing Dolly at various ages…and sizes.  The actresses on hand opening night were Katie Rose Clarke<\/strong>, Carrie St. Louis <\/strong>and Quinn Titcomb <\/strong>\u2013 and I couldn\u2019t make that up if I tried!  The run has been extended two weeks and will now close on August 31st<\/sup>.  After that…who knows.<\/p>\n

Few things make me happier than a story about Marissa Jaret Winokur<\/strong>, the original star of Hairspray<\/em><\/strong>.  But what about a story about Winokur returning to Hairspray<\/em>?  The talented Tony winner will be directing a production of the musical for 5-Star Theatricals <\/em>at the Scherr Forum Theatre <\/em>in Thousand Oaks.  Opening night is October 10th<\/sup>.  More details can be found at 5StarTheatricals.com<\/u><\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve already told you about the Hollywood Bowl<\/em>\u2019s upcoming semi-staged production of Jesus Christ Superstar<\/em><\/strong> which runs Aug 1-3.  You already know that Cynthia Erivo <\/strong>will be playing Jesus<\/strong>, and Adam Lambert <\/strong>will play Judas<\/strong>.  We can now tell you that they will be joined by Josh Gad <\/strong>as Herod<\/strong>, Phillipa Soo <\/strong>as Mary Magdalene<\/strong>, and Raul Esparza <\/strong>as Pilate<\/strong>.  Frankly, I was really looking forward to Raul\u2019s Magdalene.  Well, maybe next year.<\/p>\n

Mattel <\/em>has announced they are expanding the Barbie <\/em><\/strong>line.  We\u2019ve already had Barbies <\/em>of various sizes, colors and ethnicities.  We now have a Barbie <\/em>with Type 1 diabetes!  She\u2019ll even come equipped with her own glucose monitor!  I look forward to a more full-figured Barbie <\/em>in a blue dress taking a little pill with a big story to tell!<\/p>\n

Someone who has actually been a Barbie <\/em>is Cher<\/strong>.  And, boy, did she knock \u2018em dead last week in Rome.  She did a performance at Dolce & Gabbana<\/em>\u2019s Alta Moda <\/em><\/strong>show.  Easily looking two decades younger than her chronological age, she performed a number of ditties in a number of outfits while sporting a number of different hair styles and colors.  While I can\u2019t say she actually \u201csang\u201d, they did turn her microphone on for some mid-show patter, including an endless anecdote about filming Tea with Mussolini<\/em><\/strong> in Rome.  You can see the full show on BillyMasters.com<\/u><\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
