After months of waiting, the fate of Mid-Century Modern<\/em><\/strong> is known.  The Nathan Lane<\/strong>, Matt Bomer<\/strong>, Nathan Lee Graham<\/strong>, and Linda Lavin<\/strong>-led gay Golden Girls<\/em><\/strong> has been officially cancelled.  Could things have turned out differently if Lavin lived?  Or if Billy Lourde <\/strong>wasn\u2019t cast as Matt\u2019s daughter?  Or if Richard Kind <\/strong>and Zane Phillips <\/strong>appeared more often?  Or if it had been on a real network?  Who can say.  Well, I can say it wouldn\u2019t have hurt.  I\u2019m told everyone had a ball making it, and isn\u2019t that really the best one can hope for when a show is on Hulu<\/em>?<\/p>\n

Every so often, people like to count Bette Midler <\/strong>out.  \u201cShe\u2019s at a difficult age to cast,\u201d I often hear.  And then, poof, the perfect role.  She\u2019s just signed on to play a plumb part of a rich matriarch who cuts off her kids\u2019 cash in the upcoming Warner Bros<\/em>. film Cut Off<\/em><\/strong>.  The kids in question will be played by Kristen Wiig <\/strong>and Jonah Hill <\/strong>(who co-wrote and will direct the flick). Did I mention Bette\u2019s husband will be played by Nathan Lane<\/strong>?  Yes, an Isn\u2019t She Great<\/em><\/strong> reunion.  Hopefully they fare better this time around.  Shooting just started last week.<\/p>\n

You know the type of actors who have even less chance of getting cast than Bette Midler?  Dead actors, that\u2019s who!  But Terence Stamp <\/strong>didn\u2019t let a little thing like his demise stop him from appearing in Priscilla, Queen of the Desert 2<\/em><\/strong>.  For years, Hugo Weaving <\/strong>and Guy Pearce <\/strong>were ready to do a sequel, while Terry was the lone holdout.  Then director Stephan Elliott <\/strong>brought him a script that put a smile on his face.  He said, \u201cOK, I didn\u2019t see that one coming\u201d.  Over the next few months, Elliott had the actor working day and night to finish his scenes.  Stamp repeatedly said, \u201cYou\u2019re running out of time, kids.  You\u2019re running out of time.\u201d  But they finished the entire script.  While it\u2019s not the first time an actor has worked in a vacuum (I mean, Sigourney<\/strong>\u2019s entire oeuvre<\/em>), Stamp insisted that he play Bernadette and not have a performance created by AI.  Elliott filmed all of the Bernadette scenes \u201cin a nine-camera array of the entire script\u201d.  The rest of the cast plans shoot in in early 2026.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
