Of course, our gay patron saint is Dolly Parton<\/strong>, who has had some health issues since the passing of her husband, Carl Dean<\/strong>.  Not only has she cancelled her Las Vegas residency this December, she also bowed out of the Academy Governors Awards<\/em><\/strong>, where she was to have received the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award<\/em>.  Then her sister Freida <\/strong>(no, not the \u201cBand of Gold\u201d Freda<\/strong>) made a curious statement: \u201cLast night, I was up all night praying for my sister, Dolly.  Many of you know she hasn\u2019t been feeling her best lately.  I truly believe in the power of prayer, and I have been led to ask all of the world that loves her to be prayer warriors and pray with me.\u201d  That set off a firestorm of speculation.  So, Freida issued another statement as damage control.  \u201cI didn\u2019t mean to scare anyone or make it sound so serious.  She\u2019s been a little under the weather and I simply asked for prayers because I believe so strongly in the power of prayer.\u201d  Perhaps, but I don\u2019t think she\u2019d ask people worldwide to pray if Dolly just had the sniffles, or a hangnail!  \u201cIt was nothing more than a little sister asking for prayers for her big sister.\u201d <\/p>\n

Since that didn\u2019t help, Dolly appeared \u2013 as if an apparition at Lourdes, except this was Instagram<\/em>!  She wanted to address the health rumors with an \u201cimpromptu video message\u201d (and if you buy that, stop reading immediately).  Looking quite sprightly, she admitted to having \u201csome problems\u201d and that she had \u201clet a lot of things go that I should have taken care of\u201d.  She says she\u2019s having \u201ca few treatments\u201d at Vanderbilt Medical Center <\/em>outside of Nashville.  She welcomed the prayers, but added, \u201cI\u2019m not ready to die yet \u2013 I don\u2019t think God is through with me, and I\u2019m not done working.\u201d  If anyone has earned the right to take a breather, it\u2019s Dolly.  Get well soon.  But if you really want to rest, take a tip from Billy <\/strong>(as so many others have) \u2013 sleep on your back!<\/p>\n

When is a farewell not a farewell?  First, I was dealing with the fact that Cyndi Lauper <\/strong>did her farewell at the Hollywood Bowl <\/em>with Cher<\/strong>, and I missed it.  Then I was heartened that CBS<\/em>\/Paramount <\/em>captured the event.  So color me confused when I read that she\u2019s gonna play Vegas!  Here\u2019s the headline verbatim: \u201cCyndi Lauper Announces Las Vegas Residency, Following TV Special and Wrap-Up of Farewell Tour.\u201d  Seems to me like she\u2019s following in Cher\u2019s footsteps!  Cyndi did a very Belinda Carlisle <\/strong>thing (we\u2019ll get to her in a minute) and clarified that the farewell was to touring \u2013 not to doing a few concerts here and there.  You say potato, I say ka-ching!<\/p>\n

In the past, Belinda Carlisle has announced the end of The Go-Go\u2019s <\/em><\/strong>career no fewer than five times.  Now she comes out and says, \u201cIt\u2019s gotten ridiculous \u2013 we announce a farewell and then something comes up so we\u2019re back.  I\u2019m never saying never again.\u201d  While this is not a Go-Go\u2019s story, it\u2019s been announced that the mega-hot British boy band Take That <\/em><\/strong>will be doing a stadium tour.  And who is their opening act?  Belinda Carlisle, that\u2019s who!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
