It\u2019s almost unfathomable.  Here we are, the beginning of August, and I am making my first trek to Provincetown this season.  Within a few hours, I rectified that…several times in fact, but that\u2019s another story.  The purpose was to see Varla Jean Merman<\/strong>\u2019s latest show \u2013 Unlike A Virgin<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 which is playing at the Crown & Anchor <\/em>through September 19th<\/sup> (for tickets and info, go to OnlyAtTheCrown.com<\/u><\/strong><\/a>).  Varla is in prime form with this new show celebrating mothers \u2013 both biological and chosen.  She also gives us a glimpse at her origin story that is surely worth the price of admission.  With flashy costumes, catchy ditties, rare archival footage, fantastic new videos (including a guest appearance by BenDeLaCr\u00e8me<\/strong>), and a heartfelt message, it\u2019s a spoonful of Varla, who has been known to go down like a trooper \u2013 which is always welcome in Ptown!  Definitely a must-see.<\/p>\n

File this under better late than never \u2013 Joy Behar <\/strong>is poised to make her Provincetown debut.  On August 9th<\/sup>, The View<\/em><\/strong> mainstay hits Town Hall <\/em>in conversation with Provincetown legend, Judy Gold<\/strong>.  The event, being produced by Mark Cortale<\/strong>, will raise funds for Sandy Hook Promise<\/em>.  Needless to say, I will return to Ptown for this event, in case that sweetens the pot.  You can grab tickets for the show at PtownTownHall.com<\/u><\/strong><\/a>.  To see me, you don\u2019t need a ticket.  You\u2019ve just gotta grab my \u201cattention\u201d…or whatever else is handy.<\/p>\n

Speaking of belated debuts, it\u2019s being said that Derek Hough <\/strong>just took his first bow on a Broadway <\/em>stage in Chicago<\/em><\/strong> on July 20th<\/sup>.  That\u2019s not strictly accurate.  He was a replacement dancer in Burn The Floor<\/em><\/strong> from January 8th<\/sup> through the 10th<\/sup> in 2010.  But this was the first time he ever got to speak \u2013 even briefly.  He did the introduction to Chicago<\/em> for one reason (and for literally one minute) \u2013 to welcome his pal Mark Ballas <\/strong>back into the production.  And, as luck would have it, we have every second of his time in the spotlight on BillyMasters.com<\/u><\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Although I announced his run in Chicago<\/em>, I never saw Matteo Lane<\/strong> in his Broadway <\/em>debut.  By all accounts, the comedian distinguished himself admirably with his acting, dancing, and singing.  Our spies in the production tell me that he was a delight backstage and a very hard worker.  And unlike when Whoopi <\/strong>says, \u201cYou\u2019re welcome back any time,\u201d I\u2019m told Chicago<\/em> means it.  Until then, you can see some clips of him in the show on our website.<\/p>\n
