I attempted to flee Boston’s Emerson Colonial Theatre in a panic after the opening night performance of the Broadway-bound play Paranormal Activity.  No, the play didn’t scare me.  I just wanted to beat the crowd to the parking garage!  And in the lobby, I ran smack dab into the doyenne of Boston’s entertainment scene, Joyce Kulhawik.  “I take it you were not convinced,” she said to me with a sly smile.  That’s putting it mildly.  It truly wasn’t all bad.  Leading man Travis A. Knight is delightful to look at…particularly when he takes off his shirt (which happens in the first act).  It’s the script that doesn’t hold up to scrutiny.  Not that I think anyone, including the writer (Levi Holloway), spent much time scrutinizing it.  It strikes me as a play written to shock audiences…and to make money.  It will do both.  After a laborious first act that only gets moving in the last 15 minutes, the second act is chock full of twists and turns that become less and less convincing.  Still, it’s a handsome production, there’s a hot guy to look at, and you’ll jump out of your seat at least once – sounds like a guy I met in Boise, but I digress.  Paranormal Activity plays at bargain prices in Boston until July 30^th.  It hits Broadway on August 14^th.

We interrupt this column with a late-breaking announcement.  Dancing With The Stars pro Gleb Savchenko claims that his wife abducted their kids and moved to Hong Kong.  I’m shocked!  Gleb has kids?  And a wife?!
