In recent years, there have been rumors about Jared Leto.  Like Kevin Spacey before him, Leto has been accused of sexual misconduct.  Also like Kevin Spacey before him, he’s been the target of a British expose.  According to the BBC’s Jared Leto: Hollywood’s Dark Secret, he has a pattern of approaching underage girls and having them sign NDAs before some questionable behavior – although most of the allegations are decades old.  Leto responded, saying, “I have never sexually assaulted anyone in my entire life.  These claims are absolutely and categorically false.”  I hasten to add that there is no evidence of him approaching any guys, who would surely be more “receptive” – or perhaps I’m just projecting.  If he weren’t so hot, he’d surely never appear in this column.

I have endless respect for Sister Roma, the famed San Francisco drag artiste and activist.  And she’s been a big supporter of the San Francisco Giants Pride events.  At this year’s Pride Night, three of the players defaced their Pride caps with Biblical verses.  Roma wasn’t having it.  “I am so disappointed that anti-LGBTQ sentiments and homophobia have been revealed, right here in San Francisco, of all place.  Our community has always considered this place home and served as a beacon to queer and trans people around the world.  The refusal to acknowledge and support Pride sent a very strong message.  These players wanted the community to know they do not support them, they do not respect them, and they are not welcome on the very night that was designed to celebrate them.”  But here was the part that got me: “The Giants organization has refused to address this further and suggests that fans ‘move on’.  Well, that doesn’t fly in San Francisco.  This lack of accountability and support cuts deep with the LGBTQ Giants fans and our community at large.  Unfortunately many fans will indeed move on – away from supporting the team they love – but I don’t think this will go away any time soon.  Until the Giants come out with a strong message in support of the LGBTQ community, I don’t think they will be welcome at Pride.”
