Barrowman Backlash

And now, an uncomfortable Ask Billy question.  Jasper in Baltimore asks, “I read about John Barrowman acting like a diva on a flight.  What happened?”

First, let me say that John has always been lovely to me.  But I have a job to do, so here goes.  Last week, Barrowman was flying on American Airlines from Los Angeles to London – which is no picnic, let me tell you!  His party was in business class and he posted a video from the plane where he explained the situation: “Hi American – we have paid for the flagship service.  My father and my husband behind and the tickets were very expensive and we get on thinking we’d get pajamas with the flagship service.  Then you apparently only give them to the first two rows in business class.  What’s that all about?  So far, you’re not batting very high.  Meal order wrong and then told we don’t have exactly what everyone else is getting on the flight when we all have flagship service.  Can you explain?  Thank you.”  Many people saw this post, rolled their eyes and called him “entitled”.  Perhaps, but let me say this – if you pay for something, you should get it.  I am a loyal AAdvantage member, and I put my foot down when I don’t get what I am promised as well.  And American does claim that flagship service includes “premium pillows, blankets, and sleep amenities”.  Once he saw the comments, John pulled the video offline.  But, naturally, you can still see it on BillyMasters.com.

When one man’s amenities are another man’s necessities, it’s definitely time to end yet another column.  Proof positive that you don’t have to be a dame to be a diva – and I should know!  While you’re reading this scintillating bit of prose, I’m in Provincetown with the indefatigable Marilyn Maye.  I’m sure I’ll give you a full report next week on BillyMasters.com – the site you can read in your pajamas (for those of you who wear pajamas).  If you couldn’t grab a few seconds (or inches) of me in Ptown, you can drop a note to Billy@BillyMasters.com and I promise to get back to you as soon as I get all the sand out of my various nooks and crannies.  Until next time, remember, one man’s filth is another man’s bible.
