Celebrations and Gleeks
Back in July, Ryan Murphy revealed he was considering a reboot of Glee. “So many young people now watch it. And I’m like, ‘Maybe we should revisit that show.’” In September, he finished writing the first episode of a reboot. Last week, he announced that the reboot series has been picked up by Disney+ and Hulu. We hear that an offer went out to Lea Michele to return, and one of those pesky unnamed sources confirmed she accepted. But at least Broadway can now let out a sigh of relief that she might be otherwise occupied. As we went to print, Heather Morris and Chord Overstreet seemed to indicate that they’ll also be returning.
I’m sure my fans wonder if Darren Criss and/or Chris Colfer will return. We haven’t heard of an offer going out to either (Colfer said he knew nothing about the reboot). But the duo did recently reunite at Criss’ solo concert at London’s Royal Albert Hall. Before he started singing “Baby, It’s Cold Outside”, he referenced singing it on A Very Glee Christmas with Colfer. “I’m gonna do my best to sing both parts.” Shortly after he started, out from the wings walked Colfer! There were other surprise guests – including Alan Cumming, Gaten Matarazzo, Sarah Hyland and Jesse Tyler Ferguson. I’m certain some of the choicer footage will turn up on BillyMasters.com.
Jesse Tyler Ferguson was able to participate in Criss’ concert because he’s wowing audiences as Truman Capote in the play Tru at London’s Menier Chocolate Factory. On another one of his off-nights, he was able to celebrate Matt Bomer’s 49th birthday. Bomer, too, is in London to appear as King Herod in Jesus Christ Superstar at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane. And you know what? I’ll be in London next week and, no surprise, I’ll be seeing both lads in both shows. Reviews to follow, but photos from the birthday dinner can be found on our website.
